The Business of Retail - 21st October 2009

Over 200 nationally-significant retailers and experts gathered at The Corn Exchange in Leeds on 21st October to discuss the future of fashion retailing at ‘The Business of Retail’ event, which featured Mary Portas.

The event, organised by Marketing Leeds and the University of Leeds, supported by Leeds City College and Leeds Corn Exchange, was the second in the series of thought leadership, ‘Question-time’ style debates addressing important business issues.

Eileen Connolly, head of the DTZ Retail Marketing in the UK and EMEA region and also Chair of the BCSC Retail Marketing chaired the event. The panel of experts featured Mary, arguably the UK's foremost authority on retail and brand communications; Simon Brown, MD of online retailer Joe Browns; Gerald Jennings, Land Securities’ Retail Portfolio Director for the North and Scotland; Jane Rexworthy, Head of National Skills Academy for Retail and Tim Whitworth, Chief Executive of Republic.

The retail sector was heavily represented at the event, with attendees from national brands such as Freemans, JD Sports, Mamas&Papas and Marks and Spencer and nationally-known, Leeds-based independent boutiques including award-winning Azendi and No 15 Ltd.
