Responding to the challenge of global financial turbulence

‘The Business of the Economy’ took place on 18th October 2011. Dr Andrew Sentance, former member of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee introduced the debate with a short presentation setting out his view on "the current issues and challenges for the UK and global economies".

Following Dr Sentance’s presentation the debate, chaired by Gary Lumby MBE, Director of Small Business for Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank,  provided an opportunity for the panel to discuss how the UK can best respond to continuing global financial turbulence and how businesses can best prepare to meet current and future economic challenges. The other panellists who joined Dr Sentance were:

Andy Raynor, Chief Executive, RSM Tenon PLC, now the 7th largest firm of accountants and business advisers in the UK and one of the only professional services firms to be fully listed.
Chris Cummings, Chief Executive, City UK, an independent, national membership body which was recently formed to promote and deliver a successful financial services industry across the UK.
Dennis Turner, Chief Economist, HSBC
